A prenatal in-home appointment is available to get you off to the best start. We will discuss and develop your breastfeeding goals. Your lactation consultant will review your health history to identify any risk factors for low milk supply. Explore options to meet the needs of your family and feel better prepared for the first few days of feeding of your new baby. We can discuss antenatal colostrum collection, the golden hour, how to get a good latch, and how to prevent pain. We will incorporate your breastfeeding goals into your birth plan.
In the first few days after the birth of your baby, your lactation consultant will come to your home and assess both the mother and the infant. We will review health history, complete a breast and oral assessment, obtain a weight, and assist with hands-on breastfeeding session. You will receive a individualized plan of care to promote your goals. Common concerns are: milk supply, latch, positioning, pain, pumping, and more. Other concerns may arise as your baby grows that may need to be addressed with your lactation consultant, such as bottle refusal, mastitis, low milk supply, oversupply, and more.
Flange fitting is our specialty! Getting the correct size is much more complex than simply measuring the nipple. You will be able to try on several sizes and shapes to find the most comfortable flange which gives you the most milk. If you have nipple pain or not getting enough milk, you likely are using the wrong size flange. With the right flange size, you will get more milk in less time and have less pain!
